Agricultural Immunology

Livestpck Immunology

This unit is engaged in advanced education and research on the defense system against pathogen (bacteria, virus, parasite) infection in livestock. Specifically, to improve the healthy growth and life in livestock and human, we focus on the establishment of new systems to evaluate novel beneficial materials such as immunobiotics, and the elucidation for their regulation of mucosal immunity relating to disease resistance.

Marine Immunology

The purpose of this unit is to elucidate immune mechanisms in marine products and use these findings to establish methods to prevent and control infectious diseases without the use of drugs, as well as provide education regarding marine immunology. This unit is also engaged in education and research on developing new methods for immunostimulation, using hitherto unknown oceanic microorganisms and other marine resources.

Plant Immunology

This unit is involved in education and research on plant defense systems against attacks by pathogenic fungi, bacteria, viruses and insects and on the pest management for crop production in agriculture. To control plant pathogens and harmful insects, this unit also engages in establishment of new techniques by utilizing beneficial microorganisms and physical eradication materials such as light, priming of plant immune system, and regulation of cultivation environment.

Food Immunology

This unit is engaged in education and research on immunological functions of agricultural, marine and livestock food products. We aim to identify food components preventing infection, inflammation and allergy and to elucidate mechanism for such immunological functions. It leads to create novel functional foods, and thereby contributes to the development of a long-lived, healthy society.

Medical and Agricultural

To pursue a concept of health (One World One health), which comprehensively captures humans, animals and ecosystems, this unit engages in education and research of immunology on seeking human and animal health through interdisciplinary collaborations with medicine, agriculture and other related fields.
