Determination of the whole genome sequence of Daikon (winter radish)

Professor Takeshi Nishio and Associate Professor Hiroyasu Kitashiba, as the main researchers, cooperating with the Kazusa DNA Research Institute, determined most of the whole genome sequence of Daikon (winter radish), being a vegetable which has prospered most in Japan. The present result provides highly valuable information for identification of genes responsible for the traits important in cultivars, e.g., root shape and contents of pungent compounds, and enables acceleration of breeding by molecular techniques.
