2012/06/08 Specially Appointed Professor Akira Endo Received an Honorary Doctor of Sciences from University of Pennsylvania
Specially Appointed Professor Akira Endo (Graduate School of Agricultural Science) received an Honorary Doctor of Sciences from University of Pennsylvania. The awarding ceremony was held on May 14 at the university. Among the recent laureates of the degree, Dr. Eiichi Negishi, 2010 Nobel Prize recipient in chemistry, is included. The reason to be awarded is to discover a substance which lowers blood cholesterol from blue mold on a rice grain and to lead to the development of statin which pioneered the class of drugs targeted at lowering cholesterol. Statin is one of the best selling drugs and used worldwide.
