Introduction

We have been interested in chemistry and biology of natural products.
Currently, the glycopeptide antibiotics vancomycin is our major research target. Vancomycin is a clinically important medicine, which is considered the drug of last resort in the treatment of multi-resistant Gram-positive bacteria. We have already developed compounds that are quite effective against vancomycin-resistant bacteria. We are also studying, cellular functions of endogenous 8-nitro-cGMP, and chemical synthesis of biologically active natural products.
