Animal and Plant Quarantine Measures during the Summer Holidays
Animal and plant quarantine stations will increase their efforts to publicise the prohibition on bringing livestock products and plants into the country. They will also disinfect shoe soles and inspect personal belongings and international mail.
A request to people coming to Japan
It is illegal to bring fruits, vegetables, etc. and meat and meat products into Japan.
A person who introduces livestock products without passing import inspection shall be punished with imprisonment for up to 3 years or a fine of up to 3 million yen (up to 50 million yen for businesses). This includes cooked, vacuum-packed and duty-free purchases.
You must not send them by international mail either.
Please also ask your family and friends overseas not to send such products while you are in Japan.
