Research Projects

My main research interest is total synthesis of bioactive natural products that exhibit pharmacologically and agriculturally important biological profiles such as cytotoxic, herbicidal, and antimicrobial activities. I have recently been working on bioinspired total synthesis of structually complex natural products not only to develop an efficient synthetic route but also to obtain information regarding biosynthetic pathway.

Research Seeds

Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) have been utilized as diagnostic agents for pregnancy, flu, etc. by conjugating them to recognition ligands such as proteins, sugars, and peptides. On the other hand, there have been quite few precedents using bioactive secondary natural products as recognition ligands of AuNPs. Considering a variety of mechanisms of action that bioactive natural products exhibit, AuNPs–bioactive secondary natural products conjugates are expected to serve as novel promising chemo-sensors. For more information about my study on the AuNPs–bioactive secondary natural products conjugates, see the below links.
