The kidney is involved in maintaining homeostasis of electrolytes such as sodium, and contributes to blood pressure control through fluid regulation. Therefore, decreased renal function causes hypertension through fluid retention, and hypertension itself causes organ damage including the kidneys, forming a vicious cycle. Our laboratory is developing strategies to reduce hypertension and associated organ damage by focusing on food ingredients. |
