Research Projects

Our research targets are highly bioactive natural products, especially Marine Natural Toxins
The major works are screening, isolation, structural determination, biosynthesis, mode of action, structure-activity relationships, development of analytical methods, and biological functions. NMR and HR-LC/MS, cultured cells, and microscopes, etc. are used for research.

  1. Tetrodotoxin: Origin, isolation and structural elucidation of novel natural analogs, biosynthesis, development of analytical methods (HR-LC/MS), Tetrodotoxin and Saxitoxin binding protein in pufferfish plasma, evaluation of Nav blocking activity, and structure-activity relationships.
  2. Paralytic shellfish toxins (Saxitoxin): Biosynthetic study using chemically synthesized intermediates, structural elucidation of novel natural analogs, development of analytical methods (HR-LC/MS), and structure-activity relationships.
  3. Domoic Acid (DA)and Kainic Acid (KA): Isolation of novel analogues and related compounds, biosynthesis, preparation of novel analogues of DA and KA using synthetic precursors and biosynthetic enzymes, and structure-activity relationships.
  4. Mode of action of polycavernosides.
  5. Evaluation of Nav blocking activity using Neuro2A assay.
