– Food & Agriculture for Human Security Program (Master’s and Doctoral Program)

Tohoku University started the International Joint Educational Program of Human Security in April 2005, on the basis of mutual collaboration among four graduate schools comprising the Graduate School of Agricultural Science, of Medicine, of International Cultural Studies and of Environmental Studies. The Graduate School of Agricultural Science intends to contribute to this program in the sector of food and agrarian issues.
Students enrolled in this program are expected to take courses related to human security offered by other graduate schools, in addition to courses related to agricultural sciences.
The Graduate School of Agricultural Science has been accepting students for this program only in the Department of Agricultural Economics, but from the 2023 academic year, the program has been expanded to include more fields of study. Please refer to the application guidelines for details.
This Food & Agriculture for Human Security Program is the Graduate degree course taught in English.

– Special Selection for International Students (Master’s and Doctoral Program)

The Special Selection for International Students is one of the selections for admission to the regular program, which is different from the above-mentioned Human Security Program.
In principle, students who wish to enroll in the Master’s Program are required to enroll as a research student for at least 6 months at first to be eligible for this special selection.
If you wish to enroll in the Doctoral program, we recommend that you first become a research student, although the research student period is not required to take the special selection examination.
Because of the above-mentioned requirements for application, the application guideline for the Special Selection for International Students is not available on our website. The application guideline is distributed to faculty members, so please contact the faculty member with whom you wish to have guidance.
