Division of Safety and Function Evaluation

We assess harmful ingredients (including endogenous toxins, pesticides, and antibiotics) in products from farm and marine sources, using metabolomics analysis. For the promotion of human health, we also evaluate functional ingredients from the viewpoints of epigenetic effects, DNA damage, senescence, and carcinogenesis. Furthermore, we establish evaluation systems for environmental risks (including climate change, pollution of soil/water, and interactions with parasites and symbionts), and develop core technologies to promote the production of livestock and crops.
